The new crop of low power processors from Intel are made especially for mobile internet devices and internet centric computers. Intel Atom as it has been officially named was formerly known as the Silverthorne. This chip is predicted to be a part of many Apple products right from the latter half of the year. The simple yet affordable chip is entirely based on the latest micro-architecture which has been designed for small devices and low power. The Intel Core 2 Duo instruction set remains the same thus ensuring that same applications which are present in all Intel based notebooks and desktop systems are maintained. Multiple thread support and a size of 25 mm2 make it the smallest and lowest power processor ever designed by Intel.
