Now, a 32-nm chip from Intel!

Sunday, 14 December 2008

intel-32-nm Intel’s roadmap seems pretty interesting. Just a couple of years ago (2005 to be precise), we were introduced to the 65-nm process. In 2007, the 45-nm made its grand entry. And now, we’re in for further reduction (in size, at least) with the 32-nm chip predicted to hit the tech arena later next year.

If we’re to believe Intel, these chips are capable of housing the gen next high k+ metal gate technology (whatever that means!) with transistors which would enable 22% faster switching than what the existing chip can manage.

Leaving the technical jargon aside, the smaller chips would cost a whole lot lesser to manufacture and the consumers (that’s you!) can save a couple of dollars in your next device. We’d also heard that there’s a 45-nm process, a version of the existing chip for portable devices in the pipeline, which promises to lower power consumption. Way to go, Intel!
