BBC iPlayer For iPhone Android and Symbian

iplayer-iPhone So the big event MWC was not just for mobile manufacturers this time as even the software developers, of course only the high profiler have shown off their innovations and one such is BBC with their new iPlayer app.

The stage of MWC on Wednesday witnessed the confirmation of BBC about the two new applications for the Apple iPhone and Android mobiles. The two announced applications are the News Application and Sports Application which will be in action by April and June respectively.

The Sports Application will come prior to the FIFA World Cup in June and both of the BBC apps will contain rich video content like Live Sports games streamed to your Phone. Erik Huggers, Group Controller of BBC Future Media and Technology said that along with these two applications, an iPlayer application for the iPhone also is in their mind.

The key features of the BBC Sports Application are:

  • Live text commentary with distinct BBC voice
  • Listen live to Radio 5 Live commentary
  • Receive up-to-the-minute scores and league information
  • Participation: integration with 606, and the BBC sport blogs
  • User-generated content, submission of comments via SMS
  • Video and audio content: integration with Radio 5 Live, plus video clips (subject to rights availability)
  • Personalization: selection of your teams and clubs

Features to be noticed in the News Application are:

  • Breaking news, updated throughout the day
  • Personalization, the ability to create a personal news experience
  • User-generated content, the ability to send comments and pictures direct to the newsroom
  • Blogs, analysis and commentary with the distinct BBC voice
  • Video and audio content from the BBC News channel and other BBC sources

The iPlayer’s key features are:

  • Live TV and radio
  • Improved user experience: enhanced interface using the latest app gestures and transitions
  • New personalization features
