Picture perfect!

NEC Research's-software-to-enlarge-imagesHow many times did you give up hope of a clear, high resolution picture for that all important assignment which you had been googling for? Here's the answer to your prayers! Read on.

Might be a little too early but looks like the NEC Research Centre would have a solution of sorts in the near future. Their latest obsession is to convert pictures of resolution 320×240 pixels (QVGA) to a higher resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (WVGA) for the crystal clear image on your mobile devices. The modus operandi seems to be an algorithm which would analyze and then process the blur and roughness of the image according to the pixel level.

It’s still a mystery as to how this technology would react with poorly compressed videos such as on Youtube. Not just mobiles, this technology would surely help high definition televisions as well. The technical “upscaling” would convert the limited DVD-resolution images to a Full-HD display image of a super high resolution of 1920 points on 1080 rows. With this breakthrough, loss of quality is a thing of the past.

But hey, before you launch into your fantasy of high res images, here’s the catch 22! 2009 is the timeline by when NEC would mainstream this technology. A long wait, but then, seeing is believing, right?
