We’re all enjoying our PC without knowing if the Windows Operating System installed in it is a genuine version or a pirated one. It is actually a difficult task for an ordinary person to find out and this has made many scammers to take advantage of.

This happens to us mostly when our Computer dealer tries to make profit by using a pirated version for our system and we may not know this for years until one day everything shuts down or a crash made by some virus resulting in loss of your important files and data.

For all the versions like Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 you can perform the check for the genuine version by following these simple instructions.

If you are a Windows XP user all you need to do is go to the Start Button and go to the Run Prompt and type the following command along with the quotes - “c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe /a”. Now run the typed command and if you see a dialog box saying that Thanks for using our product, you own a genuine Windows XP version. If the dialog box shows activate the product, then you are trapped with a pirated version of XP on your PC.

If you’re using Windows Vista, you can check the version that is installed on your PC is a genuine one or not by going to the Command Prompt from Start > Run and run the following scripts on the command prompt:

slmgr.vbs -xpr, slmgr.vbs –dli, slmgr.vbs –dlv .These scripts should display the expiry date, License information and verification details as shown below and if not you are using a pirated Vista version.

Do you own a computer which is installed with the latest version of Windows Operating System – the Windows 7? Then also you can check for the genuine copy of the OS on your system. Microsoft itself has released an update to help you in confirming the original version of their OS. This update will get installed on your PC and runs a validation in the background.

If a pirated copy is used in the system a validation error will occur and it will automatically redirect towards the resolution and you will be asked to activate the copy of Windows 7 used and if you don’t do it will pop up after every x number of days to activate the pirated version Windows 7 running on your computer.
